Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy has all
the benefits of massage, but with the added advantage of
the medicinal and therapeutic qualities of essential oils,
and can soothe, revitalise, uplift the spirit, encourage
positive thinking and boost the immune system enabling the
body to heal itself.
Aromatherapy has been used for thousands of years as an
aid to physical and emotional well being. Its uses can be
traced back as far as the ancient Egyptians, who understood
the therapeutic powers of essential oils. Aromatherapy has
also been used for a very long time in the Far East and China.
An essential oil is a liquid distilled from the leaves, stems,
roots, flowers, or bark of a plant. These oils are highly
concentrated, and are usually diluted with a carrier oil,
such as almond oil or grape seed oil. Essential oils, in
their purest form, tend to be very expensive, because the
amount of oil present in plants is extremely small. For example,
440 pounds of fresh lavender flowers yield only 2.5 pounds
of essential oil of lavender.
Although there are many essential oils that are said to
be effective in stress relief, people have different preferences
regarding scents and are affected differently by these essential
oils.
The most widely used oil for stress relief is probably lavender.
Other oils that have relaxing and calming properties include
clary sage, cypress, frankincense, geranium, juniper, melissa
and sandalwood.
After an initial consultation oils will be blended to accommodate
your specific needs.
